A major UK property consultancy completed the total refurbishment of their Cambridge Headquarters building in late February 2018. As part of this project, Tangent were involved with Parker Roberts at an early stage, consulting on the design and layout development of the servery, associated kitchen, and hospitality pantry. Located in the staff and visitor café area which opens off the main reception, the service counter offers a flexible coffee shop based menu, freshly prepared in the compact but highly efficient galley kitchen located immediately behind it.
A lot of equipment had to be incorporated in a very restricted space, with careful consideration regarding electrical loadings as the building has a very strict low consumption, environmental policy. Working to this very specific brief involved a high level of collaboration between us as the catering designers, the equipment supplier and the operators, to reach the exacting standards required by the main client.
The main service counter incorporates a self-service, chilled display, self-help soup well, hot display and a 3-group barista coffee machine. The back servery counter runs seamlessly into the kitchen via a shallow view portal, which serves as a hot pass. A staff self-help counter sits next to the main servery, offering free hot & chilled beverages via a hot/chilled water font. Finishes for the front counter are a patinated zinc top with Valchromat front panels. Valchromat was also used on the staff self-help/recycling unit, combined with a Corian top.
A small hospitality pantry is located elsewhere on the ground floor, serving the conference and meeting rooms suite.
