The brief
The Cumberland Lawn Tennis Club is one of London’s premier venues for tennis, squash, cricket and hockey. Dating back over 120 years, the CLTC is steeped in history and has seen much development since the first balls were hit on its courts back in the 1800s. Once a favoured venue for pre Wimbledon grass court practice sessions by the likes of Borg and Nastase, the Club has cultivated a relationship with the All England Club that stands to this day. With the addition of Hampstead Cricket Club to its campus of facilities back in 1997, CLTCHCC is an impressive facility, offering sporting opportunities for its members unparalleled anywhere else in London. The Club’s location in West Hampstead is also a defining feature, providing an oasis for sport in one of the world’s busiest and most densely populated areas.
We had worked the previous club website to make it GDPR compliant, but it was clear that a refresh was needed. We were therefore glad to be commissioned to redesign the site, retaining the technical abilities behind the scenes to help run and manage the 1,900 plus membership.
Solution
Tangent recommended that new high quality photography and a drone video were necessary to show the facilities off. We art directed and commissioned this, which can be found on the website and on YouTube.
We implemented and upgraded:
- a secure members’ area, with downloadable PDFs only accessible to members
- a searchable members directory
- squash booking system
- a membership database of 1,900 plus members for management
- the site is PC, mobile and tablet friendly.
In addition we maintain and host the site.
Schedule
We were briefed on 6th March 2019 and the website was launched on 3rd March 2020.
Branding development evaluation
The images and video have been very well received by the membership, who are the primary audience. The club has always been oversubscribed but the website has continued to receive requests for membership on a daily basis. These have risen since the Covid-19 lockdown began to ease.
Website development evaluation
The club’s website is its main tool for managing the membership. A major part of the brief was to enhance this. With a little training and telephone support management have easily been able to handle new announcements around Covid-19, site edits, making PDF policy documents available for download and for example supplying new passwords for members.
